2014 International Hunter Derby Championship: Classic Hunter Round

In an exciting Classic Round at USHJA International Derby Finals, 76 horses competed for 30 spots in the Handy Round tomorrow night and the chance to become Champion.

Notably absent was this year’s many Derby powerhouse Kelley Farmer, who is out due to an injury. Jimmy Torano took the reins and guided her eight (yes, eight!) horses in the first round. Despite bad luck early on, Torano guided Mindful (owned by Glefke & Kensel) to scores in the 90s and second place going into the Handy Round (behind Tori Colvin and Inclusive).

While Inclusive has not done a Derby since USHJA international Hunter Derby Finals in 2013, Colvin showed him this spring in the Junior Hunters and was not at all worried and the seasoned team impressed three pairs of judges with scores of 90 to 94 plus all four bonus points for high options.
