Juniors navigate Jumper-style courses in new equitation class
Lexington, KY— March 23, 2015 — For the 2015 competition year, USHJA launched the 3’3″ Jumping Seat Medal, and the first 12 medal classes are now complete with nearly 60 competitions offering the class nationwide and more adding the class daily.
“With the USET Talent Search offering a 1.20 meter fence height, we recognized and heard from the membership the need for a stepping stone class that allows Juniors to get exposure to that kind of course before the fence heights increase,” said 2014 Equitation Task Force Co-Chair Karen Healey.
The USHJA 3’3″ Jumping Seat Medal is designed to provide Junior exhibitors with the opportunity to develop their equitation skills over a Jumper-style course. USHJA extends congratulations to the very first winners of this new and exciting class:

2014 Equitation Task Force Co-Chair Stacia Madden added, “We hope the 3’3″ USHJA Jumping Seat Medal inspires talented young riders to set their sights on the 3’6″ Equitation and the USEF Talent Search type of competition.”
Courses include at least eight fences set at 1.0m (3’3″) in height, at least one double or triple combination, and at least three spreads from 1.0m to 1.15m (3’3″ to 3’9″). Natural fences, a Liverpool, and a small water jump may also be included at the course designer’s discretion. The medal class is judged on the rider’s equitation style, technical merit, judgment and execution of an efficient, time saving pace and track.
The 3’3″ Jumping Seat Medal is open to Junior active members of the United States Equestrian Federation and the USHJA.
Currently, the class is being offered at competitions nationwide in more than 10 states. Please note that the results provided are those verified by USEF as of March 2, 2015.
