What are the odds that a welsh pony breeder would have both a homebred horse and homebred pony claim champion at a USEF premier AA horse show? If you know Debie Brown-Moon and have seen the quality of horses and ponies she breeds, then the odds are probably a lot higher than you may have formerly considered.
Serenade in Blue
Debie Brown-Moon owns and breeds horses and ponies at Hidden Pond Stables located in Norwich, NY. Based on Debie’s patience and training methods, most of our ponies were started at her farm and many went on to have successful careers as top pony hunters. While Debie is largely known for breeding and showing top-notch welsh ponies, her impact in the hunter world is not as well-known, except by those who train and work closely around her.
Recently, her breeding and training program has certainly made a statement in the hunter world. Most recently, at the Saratoga week 1 horse show. Two of her homebred’s, both by her thoroughbred stallion, Robyn Octet, showed the first week at Saratoga, a USEF Premier AA rated show. Both claimed championship in their respective divisions. Doctor Who, piloted Melissa (author), under the training of Linda Orton, to champion in the Novice Equitation. It was her first time showing at 2’9. Debie’s large pony, Serenade in Blue, trained by Gary Duffy and ridden by Claudia “Crispy” Freeman, also claimed champion in the Large Pony Hunters.

Watching Doctor Who and Serenade in Blue jump, you can see the talent and athleticism in both. In 2014, Serenade in Blue finished as one of the top Large Green Pony Hunters in the country and Doctor Who and Melissa (author) won the 2014 CDHJC special hunter finals and finished 3rd overall in the Rhode Island mini medal finals.

When Debie was told that both her babies were Champion, she was thrilled. “As as breeder, I am so proud of the babies I produced. To have two of my offspring earn Champion ribbons at Saratoga is like a breeder’s dream! I wish them and their riders continued success”.
Debie, we are all proud of you, your program and everything you’ve done. Thank you for everything you do and we wish you even more success in the future!
