GSWEC Week 1 Photos

GSWEC Winter Series is held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, TX for 4 weeks of AA shows during February. The pictures below are from Week I of the series (Feb. 3-7). The judges at Week I were Greg Franklin, Carl Hansen, Mike Moran, Mike Rosser, Dee Thomas and Diane Young. Below are pictures of highlights from the weekend by interns Amy Coretz and Jordan Cobb.

1st Year Green Vantage aka “Van” and Step Aside Farm’s Jessica Zienkievicz rode to a third place finish in the USHJA National Derby. Vantage also competed very successfully with his owner Hallie Ferguson in the Adult Amateurs 50+.
Emily Sutherland and her new mount Commander in Chief took home the blue ribbon in a Junior Equitation class.
Josie Van Hooser and Sweet Potato Pie jumping to a win in the Modified Children’s Hunters their first time in the show ring together!
Newly paired Divide’s Freedoms Spirit aka “Spirit” and Reagan Golsby earned the Children’s Pony Championship under Timbercreek Stables’ Robyn Schmidt.
With the help of Libby Barrow, Elle Mullendore piloted her horse Marvel to the Modified Children’s Hunter Championship as well as the Modified Children’s Hunter Classic win.
Daniel Bedoya guided Monica Hanks to the the Reserve Championship in the 3’3” A/Os on her own Abracadabra WKT. Trainer Daniel Bedoya also rode to the Reserve Championship in the 1st Year Green Hunters.
10-year-old Tessa Downey and her own Bringing Home Blue aka “Tinker” jumped to three wins over fences in the Small Pony Hunters to bring home the championship. The Rendezvous Farm trained pair also rode to scores of 85 and 81 to clinch the win in the combined Pony Hunter Classic.
With the help of trainer Michael Savage, Paige Walker piloted Vanessa Mazzoli’s Find the Love aka “Charlie” to the Reserve Championship in the Medium Pony Hunters after a win in the handy and under saddle.
With the help of Donna Cheney and Jenna Vanderstrom, Bella Kay earned the win in the combined USEF Pony Medal despite being her first show with Jordan Cobb’s John Wayne. The pair also earned a score of 80 to place second in the combined WIHS Pony Medal on Saturday.
Olivia Brust jumped her own Jet Pack Blues aka “Oliver” to the Reserve Championship in the combined Green Pony Hunters with a win in Saturday’s conformation round. Congratulations to Brust and trainer Dev Branham on their Pony Finals qualification!
Tabitha Brown and her own Quirrel earned numerous top placings in the 3’6” Junior Hunters to earn the Reserve Championship with the help of Talisman Stables’ Jenna Vanderstrom. The pair also earned a win in the combined Junior Hunter Classic. Congratulations to 2015’s 3’3” Junior Horse of the Year on a successful start in the 3’6” especially with such a young horse!
Kamryn Schroeder and her trainer Valerie Sinke were all smiles for a picture after taking home the Small Pony Hunter Reserve Championship on Schroder’s own Peace Keeper after a win in Saturday’s conformation round. The pair also scored a 7th place in the combined Pony Hunter Classic.
Finders-Keepers aka “Keeper” got some pats and rider Samantha Brown got encouraging words from her father before their Medium Pony Hunter rounds on Saturday. R.H.F Enterprises’ pony earned numerous ribbons in the Medium Pony Hunters and finished with a 4th place in both the WIHS Pony Medal and the combined Pony Hunter Classic.
CeCe Siegfried and Finally Found aka “Finley” had a very successful weekend. This Farewell Farm trained pair took home the Children’s Hunter 14 and under Championship along with the GSEC (NAL/WIHS) Children’s Hunter Classic 14 & under win. This horse also won a Warm Up Hunter class during the week with Colleen Acosta.
