August 15, 2016 – The competitive Medal Final season for CPHA, ASPCA, USEF, Zones 8, 9 & 10 kicks off this week at the Blenheim Summer Classic in San Juan Capistrano.
“We look forward to welcoming riders from all over the West Coast to continue the Medal Finals tradition in San Juan Capistrano and Del Mar,” said Blenheim EquiSports VP of Marketing, Melissa Brandes. “Blenheim’s mission of providing opportunities to develop young talent, for both riders and horses, truly shines during this time of the year.”
CPHA Kicks Off Two Weeks of Finals
For over 50 years, the California Professional Horsemen’s Association has represented professional horsemen in California. The CPHA Medal Finals begin at the Blenheim Summer Classic on Friday, August 19th and conclude on Saturday, August 20th. An important stepping stone to competing in a challenging indoor setting, the finals take place in the Blenheim Farms Indoor Arena.
Support A Great Cause – CPHA Foundation
Purchasing a ringside table at the first Medal Final of the season not only gives you the opportunity to enjoy a catered affair while watching the class, but also supports the CPHA Foundation. Dedicated to aiding professionals in times of need, providing higher education opportunities through scholarships and grants, fostering equestrian sport and more, support the CPHA Foundation by calling the CPHA office at 818-955-9500 to reserve a table.
The following week, Blenheim hosts the CPHA Foundation Equitation Championships for three divisions at the Showpark Summer Classic in Del Mar, August 24th – 28th. Competing at 3’3″ over two rounds, the championships are divided into 14 & Under, 21 & Under and 22 & Over. An important California competition, three perpetual trophies are presented at these championships: the Hap Hansen Perpetual Trophy for the youngest division, the Barbara Worth Oakford Perpetual Trophy for 21 & Under riders and the Victor Hugo-Vidal Perpetual Trophy for the 22 & Over division.
Region 8 ASPCA Maclay Regional Finals
Returning to San Juan Capistrano, the next important equitation event is the ASPCA Maclay Regionals, held in the Blenheim Farms Indoor Arena on the evening ofSeptember 17th.
Once again the intimate arena offers an ideal setting to test these young riders. VIP tables are available for this event, including a catered dinner and an open bar.
The competition is tough until the last flat phase, as the results indicate who qualifies for the prestigious ASPCA Maclay Finals at the CP National Horse Show in Lexington, KY, in early November.

In memory of the talented rider Shelby Drazan, her family, together with Tex Sutton, have established the Shelby Drazan Memorial Award.
