Lexington, KY – June 28, 2017 – Earlier this year, the National Horse Show Association proudly introduced the National Horse Show 3’3” Equitation Championship to be held annually the weekend before the National Horse Show in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. This new Equitation Championship will be run using the same format as the ASPCA Maclay National Finals, with fences being set at 3’3”.
While no qualifying classes will be held for the 2017 event, qualifying classes for the 2018 Championship will begin September 1, 2017. The management and staff of the National Horse Show kindly ask that competitions currently offering the ASPCA Maclay qualifying classes consider adding the NHS 3’3” Equitation Championship qualifying class as well. Following the dues structure of the Maclay, competitions will pay $10 or $12 per rider for the NHS 3’3” Equitation qualifying class.
Competition Managers and Secretaries, please reference the information and forms when hosting qualifications:

Beginning September 1, 2017 all riders must be members of the National Horse Show Association (NHSA) to compete in either the ASPCA Maclay or the NHS 3’3” Equitation. We have changed the “Maclay membership” into the “NHSA” membership to encompass both the Maclay and NHS 3’3” qualifying classes. Only one membership is needed for either class: A rider only needs to join the NHSA once to ride in either the Maclay or the NHS 3’3″ Equitation.
Also new beginning September 1, results either mailed hard copy or emailed as a pdf, will pay $12 per rider. Results submitted electronically using either the upload system or emailed as a .dat or .csv file will pay $10 per rider.
Please go to www.nhs.org and click the Equitation tab to find updated class application and dues owed forms.
Please email Cindy Bozan at [email protected] with any questions.
With $810,000 in prize money offered, this year’s show has been designated a CSI-W 4* show by the FEI and the International Open Jumpers will compete for almost a half a million dollars in prize money. For the sixth year in a row, The National Show Hunter Hall of Fame has named the CP National Horse Show the ‘Horse Show of the Year’. In 2017, the top-rated hunter sections have a total purse of $195,000.
