Each week, TPH Media Chair, Estelle Kraft, will be breaking down The Plaid Horse Pick Six — a weekly wrap up of equine news, great deals, popular blog posts and much more! Tune in every Sunday for six don’t miss things from the previous week.

1. Red Bucket Equine Rescue Heals Horses & Humans

The holiday season is in full swing, which also means it’s the season of giving. TPH Ambassador Kristyna Lukacova explores Red Bucket Equine Resuces’ meaning and mission in her most recent blog — a perfect way for equestrians to get in the giving spirit!

“Susan Pierce is the president and founder of Red Bucket Equine Rescue in Chino Hills, California. With the help of her team, Susan has rescued 371 horses; 225 of which have found forever homes. Susan’s optimistic attitude is incredibly inspiring.” Read more about Red Bucket Equine Rescue »

2. WEC Winter Series of the Midwest – Photo Gallery

TPH posts photo galleries from horse shows nationwide. This week, I’m highlighting Intern Ashley Shaw’s photos from the WEC Winter Series December 6 – 10. There are some beautiful photos in the indoor of some jumper rounds during this early season show. Find a picture of someone you know? Tag them and share!

Want to see your horse show photos featured? Contact The Plaid Horse at! We love featuring riders of all levels! Whether you are at a local show or a Championship event across the globe, we want to feature your horse show!

3. TPH Limited Edition Gear

Of course I love all things The Plaid Horse but, I kid you not, the TPH Limited Edition Gear is so comfortable that my mom steals the sweatshirts to run errands in! Often times I find myself sleeping in it, working in it, riding in it and anything else imaginable. You NEED this comfy wear line ASAP. Oh and it’s on sale, so you’re welcome!

4. Caption This! – Instagram Fun

If you read the TPH blog, you probably also follow our instagram @theplaidhorsemag (and if you don’t, you better get on that so you don’t miss out!) where we post everything from memes to horse show results. Recently, we started a series called Caption This where we give our readers a funny photo to caption taken by our interns. This is a fun way for you as a reader to interact with the TPH team and other readers just like you. Make sure you turn on notifications so you know when we’ve posted!

5. USHJA Announces Gold Star Clinic – East Coast Participants

The USHJA announced its Gold Star Clinic East Coast participants earlier this week. On the USHJA Press Release on TPH’s website, you can read all the details on the first Gold Star Clinic with lead clinician Richard Spooner!

“The United States Hunter Jumper Association is pleased to announce the 26 athletes who will participate in the first USHJA Gold Star Clinic, featuring lead clinician Richard Spooner, who will be supported by multiple high performance athletes and top industry professionals. The four-day intensive mounted and unmounted clinic will take place Dec. 27-30 at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.”

6. Fashion: 5 Essential Pieces

Living in Southern California I am spoiled with 72 degree weather and a partly cloudy sky year round, but right now it’s in the 40s when I go to the barn in the mornings. Yes, you read that right — 40 degree weather, in CALIFORNIA. Because of this upset in the normal weather calendar, I have been using Bethany’s tips to great use this past week.

“The temperatures have dropped, and it’s time to pull out those extra layers! I am a firm believer that just because you need to bundle up doesn’t mean that your style has to suffer. I have pulled together 5 essential pieces that are must-haves for your winter wardrobe, whether you are at the barn or hanging out with friends. Coincidentally I picked out 5 black pieces (Ido love black!) but they match with almost anything you already have.” Read more on Bethany’s fashion tips.

Tune in weekly for TPH Media Chair Estelle Kraft’s Pick Six of the latest and greatest happening in the equine industry. And as always, head to to read the latest blogs, press releases and more!
