BY ESTELLE KRAFT
Each week, Estelle Kraft, will be breaking down The Plaid Horse Pick Six — a weekly wrap up of equine news, great deals, popular blog posts and much more! Tune in every Sunday for six don’t miss things from the previous week.
Each issue of The Plaid Horse is put together by a hard-working group of women and our latest March Style Issue is no exception. This month the Hamel Family graces the cover and TPH Editor Sissy Wickes shares their story. California’s Valencia Saddlery is also featured, and I’m happy to say my first printed piece is in here beside so many other fabulous stories and photos. As the months fly by each issue just gets better, make sure you grab yourself a copy!
2. What’s Next?
In an industry that’s always changing and growing, TPH’s Publisher Piper Klemm posed the question “What’s Next?” in last month’s issue. Piper is not only a business owner in this industry but an innovator. In TPH Editor Sissy Wickes’ cover story, TPH readers learn more about Piper’s outlook on an equestrian’s world and what the future can look like!
“But, it was very important for me to know that this was my passion. This is a hard industry and the people can be really tough. The dilemmas we face can be really tough. Dealing with a living, breathing animal complicates things, and to take on that challenge, I had to know that this is what I want to be doing.”
Were you at WEF week 6? If not no worries, because TPH Intern Emy Lucibello took some beautiful photos of the hunter rings. If a picture speaks a thousand words, then Emy has a lot of good things to talk about! Check out these photos and the rest of our albums in the Event Galleries tab on theplaidhorse.com/.
When I joined the TPH team I made it extremely clear that I couldn’t take photos to save my life, and this is still true. While I may not be TPH Interns Irene Powlick or Vyla Carter, but I try my best to learn about photography when possible because I respect the art. In the most recent #Plaidcast Jr Piper and Vyla sit down to discuss the ins and outs of horse show photography. This episode is perfect for anyone from the beginner to the seasoned pro. Give it a listen!
As you might think, I spend a lot of time on my computer between being a high school senior in today’s technology to my job working for TPH. Being on the computer means I listen to a lot of “stuff,” and more recently that “stuff” has been the podcast, Stuff You Should Know. I believe that we should be informed about the world around us and what takes place inside it. Stuff You Should Know is a FABULOUS podcast hosted by Chuck Bryant and Josh Clark covering topics from global issues to children’s toys and everything in between. Podcasts are a great way to break up listening to music or watching the news for me, so I encourage you to give one a listen if you never have!
Equo is offering a private training day with Daniel Bluman. Say what?!? This is such a cool opportunity! At TPH, we encourage taking advantage of all the education that you can get, whether that be inside or outside the ring, so why not enter this great contest. All the details are explained on the Equo website and you know I’ve already entered, so I encourage you to as well.
“Equo is very excited to offer a VIP experience and private training day with Daniel Bluman! One lucky rider will win a full day of private mentorship with Daniel, including a riding lesson, lunch, and an opportunity to shadow Daniel during a training day at Bluman Equestrian! Learn the Bluman secrets to success and WINNING! PLUS, all the swag you can carry home!”
