We should always remember to celebrate our accomplishments in this sport — and that comes in all forms. Even if a round went terribly, it’s important to acknowledge what it took to get in the ring in the first place. A sound horse. A healthy rider. Countless hours of training, work, preparation and the privilege to be able to go to a horse show at all.
That’s why I love pictures taken at the end of a round, after all the action is complete. These captures of smiling riders, patting their horse with its ears pricked forward — that’s what competition is about to me. The moment before the score has been announced and the results have been calculated, when you know you put in a solid effort. That’s my favorite.
Which is why I loved these photos from Vispera Productions from last weekend’s Land Rover Kentucky 3 Day Event. Take a minute to share the joy of top level competition with these eventing riders!

Whether you’re heading out to a schooling show or the biggest competition for your sport — don’t forget to celebrate the round!
