“I so love this program,” Beth Theisen, with Two Rivers Ranch in Alaska, said. “It truly is focused on the education for our students on skills of horsemanship and barn management that we might not otherwise address in the busy lesson schedule. I am so grateful that it is also open to the kids and the adult amateurs, as it gives them good discussion time and focus on healthy horse habits and knowledge.”

The Stable Challenge engages a trainer’s entire barn as a team. At least three students per trainer had to complete the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Practice Quiz between June 15 and July 15 this year to be eligible for prizes.

This year, the quiz for Stable Challenge was taken 1,404 times with more than 250 barns participating. Nine of the barns that participated are USHJA Recognized Riding Academies, and four of the winning trainers are USHJA Certified Trainers.

At the end of the 30-day challenge, the three top scores under each trainer were averaged to provide an overall score. Participants who also took the Level One and Level Two HQC quizzes received 10 bonus points for each level they completed.

The highest scoring trainer from each zone will receive a unique, trainer-inspired award package for his/her barn that includes a helmet from Charles Owen, a one-year membership to Equestriancoach.com, a $200 Parlanti gift certificate, a pair of Pro Performance horse boots from Professional’s Choice, a gift from Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, a grooming bucket with supplies from Shapley’s, gifts from The Plaid Horse, a gift from Stable Secretary and a USHJA branded backpack, brush, hoof pick, tumbler and TCP manual.

The Stable Challenge was created to promote the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Program and get members excited about advancing their horsemanship knowledge at any age. USHJA members (who are younger than 21 years old on December 1 of the current competition year) can still participate in the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge and compete for a chance to go to HQC Nationals until September 1.
