AN AWARDING WEEKEND AT FRANKTOWN MEADOWS HUNTER DERBY

Janice M. MacLean Memorial Trophy

The Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby is so much more than a horse show, it is the gathering of a community. A community of equestrians who believe in honoring the past, creating memories, connecting with friends, and family every year at this special charitable event.

The Janice M. MacLean Memorial Trophy is presented to the winner of the Franktown Meadows International Hunter Derby and is a visual representation of the heart of this event.  This perpetual trophy honors the memory of Janice M. MacLean, founder of Franktown Meadows Equestrian Facility. Janice installed a love of the horse in all who surrounded her, and created a passion for an equestrian life in three further generations of her family.

KAREN DEARMONT MEMORIAL AWARD

The voicing of historical stories and the passing on of knowledge by sharing memories is important to our sport. Karen Dearmont was an equestrian, and a dear friend of many who lost her fight with cancer. In an expression of gratitude for the kindness Karen brought into the lives of many, Corrine Shaw and friends generously organized the “Karen Dearmont Memorial Award.” In her memory, $1,250 is awarded annually to the high score junior and amateur riders of the $10,000 Franktown Meadows 3′ Hunter Derby.
