Trainer Russ Weeden poses with Onassis VDE ( aka Cosmo) winner of the first Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award at the start of tom 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival Season

Wellington, FL (Jan 16, 2020) — At the internationally competitive Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) the team from Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals keeps an eye out for horses that best exemplify Omega Alpha’s image of excellent horse health. Omega Alpha recently selected their first outstanding competitor of the 2020 season to receive the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award.

That first winner was Onassis VDE, a coming six-year-old Belgian Warmblood bay gelding owned by Kimberly Penfold and Glory Days Farm. Located in Lake Bluff, Illinois, just north of Chicago, Glory Days Farm is owned by Ila Lemonis.  Onassis VDE (Cumthago C x Farayira VH Trichelhof) is trained and ridden by Rush Weeden and is competing in the 3’ Green Hunter division.  “He had a successful Baby Green season here last year,” said Weeden.  “He has a nice, even jump and good rhythm.”

Onassis VDL, known around the barn as Cosmo has a kind eye and throughout his class looked happy and focused on his job.  “He’s a sweet horse,” Penfold shared. And the team at Glory Days Farms has big plans for Cosmo this season with their sights set on the National Derby and the Incentive.

When asked about how they keep and Cosmo and the other 11 horses they brought to Wellington happy and healthy, Penfold explained, “We are here for the whole circuit.  We keep the horses at a farm nearby and the horses get lots of turnout on grass to keep them relaxed.  And they get lots of love.”

In addition, Penfold and Weeden told us the attention to detail in their horses’ care and feeding is important.  “We have heard of the Omega Alpha products and it is nice to have this opportunity to try them, Penfold said, adding they were grateful to Omega Alpha for recognizing “Cosmo”.

Omega Alpha is excited to celebrate the health and happiness of horses by sponsoring these internationally competitive hunter/jumper circuit awards. Winners of the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award receive a neck ribbon, commemorative cooler and a tote bag full of Omega Alpha products.  Since 1992, Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has produced all-natural formulations for enhancing equine health and performance.
