Wellington, Florida (February 3, 2020)- “He has that star quality we talk about and look for in top horses,” Chris von Martels told Sue Newell after accepting her N2 Saddlery Sport Horse of the Week Award for Figuero at January’s Gold Coast Opener CDI2* during the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival, now through March 29, in Wellington, Florida. Each week of the internationally acclaimed winter dressage series N2 Saddlery recognizes an outstanding equine athlete with its Sport Horse of the Week Award.
Figuero is a 10 year-old KWPN (Rodium x Krack C) gelding in training and for sale through Von Martels Dressage Inc. of Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada. “He’s bred very Dutch,” von Martels says of the Sport Horse of the Week. “This is a very talented horse. He has three outstanding gaits and the character to win. “We dream of the big things, like World Championships and Olympic Games, but in the meantime, the journey with this horse has been quite enjoyable. He’s always fun to ride and, in my view, is a horse who wants to work for his rider.”
“We have high hopes for him,” says von Martels, who keeps his own aspirations honed to an equally keen edge by training with coaches including four-time Olympic dressage veteran Ashley Holzer and former Belgian and Dutch Olympic teams trainer, Sjef Janssen.
