Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation Accredited by the American Sanctuary Association

Susan Kayne, President and Founder

August 25, 2020, Coxsackie, NY | Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation is pleased to report that it has merited accreditation by the American Sanctuary Association (ASA).

The ASA, founded in 1998, is a comprehensive accrediting body that requires member sanctuaries to maintain the highest standards of animal care and welfare. As well as facility compliance and proof of best practices, the ASA scrutinizes financial stability, fundraising procedures, board oversight, permits and licenses, organizational bylaws, educational materials, and veterinary references.

Susan Kayne, a lifelong equestrian, founded Unbridled in 2004 to transition retiring racehorses into loving homes through adoption. Since that time, the organization has expanded into a rescue, sanctuary, and educational center for active learning, advocacy, and animal ethics. “The suffering that our rescued Thoroughbreds endured while in the slaughter pipeline tells the tale of thousands of horses across this country who are without voice. At Unbridled, through data, hands-on engagement, and real stories we empower people of all ages to positively reshape the future for all Horses.”

“Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation is a beautiful place, the horses look great and the barns, stalls, paddocks and other facilities are all outstanding,” ASA Director Vernon Weir said.  “ASA is pleased to welcome Unbridled into our group of 52 other outstanding animal sanctuaries located all over the U.S.”

“We are deeply grateful to the entire ASA Board, including Director Vernon Weir and President Tippi Hedren for recognizing Unbridled and welcoming us into ASA’s esteemed group of animal caregivers.”

Earlier this year, The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries and rescue organizations, awarded Accredited status to Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation. Additionally, Unbridled is recognized as a Guardian by the Equus Foundation and bears the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar.
