Tiz The Law went into 2020 Kentucky Derby as the warm favorite to win the second leg of this year’s Triple Crown. However, he had to settle for second place behind Authentic.
The runner-up at Churchill Downs has had a fantastic season on the track and his biggest prize may still on the cards via the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November at Keeneland.
Tiz The Law is the new market leader in the horse racing odds from Betfair for the feature race at the World Championship meeting. Barclay Tagg’s runner can be backed at +450 now to prevail in what may be his first assignment against the older generation.
There is no doubt Tiz The Law is one of the best of his age group. His victory in the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park proved that. He stayed on strongly in the final stages of that 1m1f contest which also indicated stamina is not a problem for the son of Constitution.
The talented three-year-old recorded his third Grade One success of 2020 in the Travers Stakes last month. His victory at Saratoga over the distance of 1m2f was even more emphatic as he was over five lengths ahead of his rivals when crossing the line.
This year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic has a wide-open feel about it. Arrogate was the last three-year-old to come out on top in 2016 and connections will be hoping their horse can follow in his path by becoming one of the most dominant middle-distance runners in the world.
Authentic Set to Take His Chance Following Kentucky Derby Win
Authentic’s success in the Kentucky Derby earlier this month did not come as a surprise. Bob Baffert’s runner has had a big reputation himself ever since he hit the racecourse for the first time back in January.
Once he hit the front at Churchill Downs in the home straight, he battled hard to ensure he was not for passing in the Triple Crown contest.
The future looks very bright for the son of Into Mischief. Connections have yet to reveal his path for the rest of the year, but the Breeders’ Cup Classic has to be on their minds. It’s likely that there will also be early thoughts about the international races they could enter in 2021, including the Dubai World cup.
Baffert has won the Breeders’ Cup feature contest on three occasions, so he knows what type of horse it takes to come out on top in the international contest. His last success came in 2016 when Arrogate proved too strong for his rivals at Santa Anita.
Another clash between Authentic and Tiz The Law is something racing fans will be very excited to see. It will also be a good test for them against the likes of Maximum Security, Charlatan, and Benbatl, horses that have had a lot of success around the globe.
The 2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic is set to take place on November 7, the final race of the two-day meeting in Kentucky.
