It is a common misconception that race horsing, tracks and betting on the outcome of these races is reserved for the elderly and the wealthy. Regardless of what the movies say, this exciting form of entertainment has stood the test of time and has become very popular in certain regions of the world, such as Canada. Canadian bettors and tourists who enjoy horse racing and betting, have been flocking to the prestigious Woodbine Racetrack for hundreds of years. In fact, the location is so well-known for its superior amenities and atmosphere that even royalty has attended tournaments held here and graced the racetrack with their presence. That being said, it’s no wonder that Woodbine Racetrack is considered to be the finest track to experience horse racing in Canada today.

About Woodbine

The Woodbine Racetrack serves as a venue for the racing of thoroughbred horses in Ontario, Toronto, Canada and is owned by the Woodbine Entertainment Group. The group manages and operates the racetrack which hosts Canada’s most prestigious race, called The Queen’s Plate. Woodbine racetrack was initially opened in 1965 and was comprised of a mile long oval-shaped dirty track, as well as the seven-eighths course. The course has been remodelled extensively since 1993, with the construction of three new racecourses taking a year. In 1994 the newly renovated Woodbine Racetrack began to operate with three additions.

The Woodbine carries the same name today that was used when the racetrack opened its operation in east Toronto, Queen Street in 1874. In 1951, the venue was managed by the Ontario Jockey Club (OJC) and hosted the King’s Plate tournament. However, the track required remodelling which is why the OJC began to acquire racetracks in the 1950s.  The racetrack has since been visited by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and other noteworthy personalities.

Woodbine Casino

While Woodbine was initially established to be a venue for horseracing, training programs and events, the business has grown significantly. Casino Woodbine serves as a welcome escape for many Canadian gamblers who might have less of an interest in horseracing and more of an interest in slots and other casino games. The casino portion of Woodbine boasts over 100 table games, more than 2900 slot gaming titles, about 250 eTables and over 100 Dealer assisted stadium games. In addition to this, the casino is also home to a Horse Racing Hall of Fame for visitors who make the journey out to Woodbine to enjoy a racing event and venture into the casino venue. Last year, many racing events were cancelled which led to many Canadian players opting to enjoy the games that have come to know and love at the Woodbine online casino. The Woodbine Entertainment Group has gone above and beyond by offering players who visit the casino and racetrack complimentary services such as coat-check, shuttle services and free non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy while playing at one of the many casino tables and/or games.

Events and Experiences

Woodbine has also become very popular with tourists and travellers who are looking for a fun and entertaining venue for their vacation that caters to both the adults and youngsters. The young ones are allowed to accompany their parents to the racetrack two hours before racing events and one hour after the last race has ended. The Woodbine racetrack’s website allows visitors to look at the events for the entire month and plan accordingly; ensuring that avid racing fans do not miss a single beat. There are also a select few Canadians who make the trip to Woodbine not for the racing or the casino-style gambling but rather the varied and sublime dining options. The Woodbine Club Dining room has been reserved for loyal customers and offers a regal dining experience in a rich-appointed room and atmosphere. This restaurant can be found on the 4th floor of the racetrack and boasts views of all three tracks and a tempting new menu to be paired with the extensive list of wines. For visitors who are looking for a more child-friendly venue, the Post Parade Dining Room could be the perfect fit. The dining venue is comprised of a vibrant and large space, encased in class that offers spectacular views of all racetracks.
