Rome, Italy – May 28, 2021 – The second competition of the second day of the 88th CSIO of Rome on the Piazza di Siena green oval arena, was conquered by an equestrian who has already written great pages in the history of the Roman show jumping: Eric Lamaze (CAN).
On his 15-year-old chestnut Oldenburg gelding Chacco Kid (Chacco-Blue x Come On), the Canadian rider was the only one to go under one minute (58.78) in the MAG Prize CSIO 5*, an against the clock class that featured with 61 combinations trying to overcome obstacles set at 1.55 meters.
Lamaze was almost four seconds faster than Emilio Bicocchi (ITA), who finished second on the Italian mare Rondine del Terriccio (Tinka’s Boy x Falconiera Del Terriccio) after stopping the timers in 62.32 seconds.
The third spot on the podium was conquered by another Italian rider, Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA), who Cochello (Casall x Cartani 4) towards a penalty-free performance in 62.90 seconds.
Individual Olympic champion and team silver medallist in Beijing 2008, but also team bronze medallist in Rio de Janeiro 2016, the 53-year-old Lamaze was also individual bronze medallist at the 2010 WEG in Lexington. He is currently No. 23 in the FEI world ranking and won the Rome Grand Prix twice at Piazza di Siena.
Mention should be made of the good performance of the Egyptian Karim Elzoghby (EGY), fifth on Gallos (64.27), and of the Czech Ales Opatrny (CZE), sixth on Gentlemen Vh Veldhof (65.07).
