Carleton and Traci Brooks will take their Balmoral operation northeast for the first time this summer, with four weeks of competition planned at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival in Traverse City, MI.
A string of Balmoral horses and ponies will make the 30-hour venture, shipped by the Hall of Fame horseman himself, for the first four events of the GLEF circuit, which will feature USEF Premier “AA” rated competition as well as a week with World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) designation. Traverse City, a popular tourist destination, is also known for its natural attractions, dining, and abundance of recreational activities, many of which are centered around Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes in North America.

“We’re really looking forward to taking Team Balmoral on the road for our first visit to GLEF,” Traci said. “We have not traveled outside of California since 2019, as we made the difficult decision to forego the indoor championships last year, and Traverse City has a fantastic schedule that will suit all of our horses and clients in a beautiful area of the country. Carleton and I have heard so many great things about this horse show, and we’re excited to experience it for ourselves.”

The trip will precede the farm’s annual venture to Lexington, KY, for the USEF Pony Finals and USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships. During Pony Finals, Carleton will be the official clinician for the Pony Finals Modeling Clinic series. The following week in Lexington, Carleton will once again be on the judging panel at the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championships.Â
“The Kentucky Horse Park is less than 10 hours from Traverse City, making it a great place for us to break up our trip to Kentucky,” Traci said. “It’s going to be a great summer!”
