HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The West Palms Events Huntington Beach Sunshine Classic (July 15-18) featured a week of beachside competition at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, highlighted by the Free Rein Foundation Grand Prix, a USHJA National Hunt & Go Derby, and a Saturday night gala to support the Free Rein Foundation.

Lane Clarke and Horsemanship Unlimited’s Venom emerged victorious in the Free Rein Grand Prix. Kasey Ament rode Lornah Investments LLC’s Qasama Du Buisson Z to a second place finish and Jake Endicott finished third aboard Twin Oaks Ventures LLC’s Corean De Liebri.

“I was thrilled with my horse,” Lane commented. “The jump off kept getting quicker and quicker. It was super exciting. I have been coming to West Palms for a really long time, and their events are always great.”

Thank you to everyone who helped support the Free Rein Foundation Fundraiser during the Free Rein Grand Prix. The Huntington Beach based foundation aims to heal humans and rescued horses by creating a bond that empowers and nurtures both.

Saturday night’s gala and silent auction brought in over $53,000 to support the Free Rein Foundation. “Eighty percent of our fundraising for the year comes from this event,” said Free Rein President Justine Makoff. “If it wasn’t for Dale and his team, we couldn’t afford to care for the horses in our program.”

USHJA National Hunt & Go Hunter Derby

Lindsay Ransom and Debra Chamber’s Nivelo took first place honors in the USHJA National Hunt & Go Derby at the Huntington Beach Sunshine Classic. Lindsay also took home the second place ribbon with Mountain View Farms LLC’s Celebration and Samantha Gastelum rounded out the top three on her own Romanee Conti.

“We have been coming to this show in Huntington Beach for a couple of years and we love it,” Lindsay noted. “The footing is great, the jumps are beautiful, and West Palms does a fantastic job.”
With this win under her belt, Lisa is now in contention to earn a LEGIS Equine Hunter Rider Bonus if she seals another derby win during the 2021 West Palms Southern California Shows aboard Cortana.
