WAUSEON, OHIO – Van’s Lumber & Custom Builders has constructed a new horse barn that would make Secretariat jealous. Created to serve as both a stable and family entertainment facility, the heated 3,200-square foot structure was designed to include four Haas Door Commercial Aluminum (CA315i) garage doors.
“The homeowners had the concept and vision, and we made it happen functionally and economically,” says Kurt VandenHouten, managing partner at Van’s Lumber & Custom Builders in Dyckesville, WI. “They wanted an open, industrial look to the area. We recommended Haas garage doors near the party space for indoor/outdoor entertaining and at both access ends of the building.”
COVID-19 Barn
According to homeowners David Cuene and Jairo Rios, the new horse barn was created as a COVID-19 project. The family has two horses and 27 acres of land. With twin teenage boys restless for more space during the quarantine, the idea was born for adding a multi-purpose building to their property.
“This is an ‘everything barn,’ says Cuene. “We want the space to flow freely to house the horses comfortably, while still allowing room to host indoor/outdoor parties. Having the all-glass garage doors accomplishes our design goals.
“When the weather is good, the Haas garage doors are wide open. We’ve hosted several school events and parties in the new structure and everyone thinks the garage doors are really cool.”
Made for Wisconsin Weather
To help achieve the industrial look, the building team recommended CA-315i garage doors with heavy duty black anodized aluminum frames. Installed by Tri-County Overhead Door Service, the 10’ 2” by 10’ garage doors are energy efficient. There’s clear, tempered insulated glass in all windows that provide extraordinary insulation values. Tongue and groove joints have bulb seals that meet IECC air infiltration requirements.
“Tri-County recommended these specific garage doors for the heated horse barn,” says VandenHouten. “They were absolutely correct. The Haas Door style, with the maximized glass and narrow center stile, ideally suits this project.”
The recently-completed structure houses an eclectic mix of tractors, a large-screen TV viewing area, bar cart and hay storage.
“Using the garage doors to add light and easy access to the horse barn was a great design idea,” says homeowner Cuene. “The insulated Haas garage doors are ideal for all our weather conditions and function beautifully. I think our horses are the lucky ones for getting to live in this wonderful setting every day!”
