BURBANK, Calif. – The West Palms Events LA Labor Day Classic (Sept. 1-5) featured a week of top competition, including $30,000 Labor Day Grand Prix, a USHJA National Hunt & Go Hunter Derby, LAHJA Medal Finals, and a $5,000 1.40m Welcome Classic.
Charlie Jones and Lindsay Maxwell’s Charismo Z secured the victory in the $30,000 Labor Day Grand Prix. Misti Cassar rode her Viking to a second place finish and Lane Clarke rounded out the top three aboard Horsemanship Unlimited’s Venom.
“I thought the course was very good,” Charlie commented. “There were a few challenges in there for the riders to decide what they wanted to do. I’ve been riding this horse for about six months now and he has really stepped up. It was my second time here at LAEC and I love this venue. It’s a great place.”
With this victory under his belt, Charlie is now contention for a LEGIS Jumper Rider Bonus if he wins another grand prix with Charismo Z at another show during the 2021 West Palms Southern California Series.
USHJA National Hunt & Go Hunter Derby

Professional rider Crystal Theisen and Hallie Cameron’s Loco Lex sealed the win in the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby. Chad Mahaffey finished second and third aboard Julia Greenspan’s PaperBoy and Billie Guerin’s Lassarro, respectively.
Crystal is now in contention for a LEGIS Hunter Rider Bonus if she rides Loco Lex to another hunter derby victory during the 2021 West Palms Southern California Shows.
