In the Autumn Welcome Grand Prix, 27 horse and rider pairs tackled a technical first round track designed by Mauricio Garcia of Puerto Rico in the LEG International Ring as spectators looked on with excitement.

Professional rider Bjorn Ikast (DEN) posted the victory aboard Top Castino a ten-year-old stallion owned by Bjorn and BBB Show Jumpers LLC. He also took home the second place prize with BBB Show Jumpers LLC’s 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding, Classini. In third place was amateur rider Molly Talla aboard her own LCC Yankie, a nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse trained by Todd Gregory.

“We had an accident back in April where I broke my hip and my femur, so I have been out all summer and training very hard to come back,” Bjorn said. “This is our first show since then so I am really happy to come back like that. All of our horses were fantastic.”

Eight pairs left all the poles up and returned for an exciting jump-off. Bjorn and Top Castino stopped the clock in 41.181 seconds, securing the win and dropping Classini into second place with a time of 41.549 seconds. Just a fraction of a second behind Bjorn, Molly and LLC Yankie jumped to a third place finish with a time of 41.570 seconds.

Mauricio was very pleased with how Bjorn navigated his courses. “I was really happy to watch Bjorn win the grand prix,” commented Mauricio. “We had 27 horses in the grand prix and eight in the jump-off which was perfect in my opinion. After his accident, this is an incredible comeback.”

“I am feeling great and ready for next week,” Bjorn added.

“Sometimes you win and sometimes you cut it a little short, but today was my turn and I am really happy.”With this victory under his belt, Bjorn is now in contention for a LEGIS Rider Bonus. If Bjorn and Top Castino win the grand prix at Autumn in the Rockies II, they will take home a LEGIS Jumper Rider Bonus. Stay tuned!
