The Equine Tack & Nutritionals Ring had 35 entries on Friday for the USHJA EMO Insurance 3’3” Jumping Seat Medal.
Rylie True, of Bedminster, NJ, rode to the win aboard Utrillo Du Soleil after a test on the flat that saw the top 12 riders called back.
“We planned for a big, nice, bold pace since I noticed that working out well for riders in the previous class,” said True.
She executed her plan for Utrillo Du Soleil, a 14-year-old Warmblood gelding owned by Reese Merna, and ultimately found that they were well suited for the test.
“He has a perfect lead change and his counter canter is really nice, so that helped out in the test,” noted True. “I was really proud of him.”
The pair have been working together for only a few months but are already seeing success.
“We got him around November, and this is only our second time doing the 3’3” together,” said True. “He’s really good, his jump is really smooth, and he has a huge stride, so I don’t have to worry about moving up for the lines.”
True was champion in the Low Children’s Jumpers at WEF 2 on another horse but plans to continue doing the equitation with Utrillo Du Soleil.
“I’d like for us to be consistent in the Equitation 12-14, the Taylor Harris National Children’s Medal, and this class,” said True. “Qualifying for finals is definitely a goal.”
Maddie Tosh with Audi 2000 Z was second in the class, and Saylor Shea with Carlo E rounded out the top three.
