It was a grand way to end week 8 at WEF for Ava Barnes and her own 11-year-old Belgian Riding Pony, Prestige. After two days and five classes, the pair earned a total of 26 points and were awarded the champion rosette and blanket.
“I felt really good coming into today,” said Barnes, “especially since we ended WEF WCHR week 6 really well with being champion. I felt confident coming into this week.”
The two have had an impressive week and a stellar season together. This week, the pair won both the Washington International Horse Show Pony Equitation class, as well as the Marshall & Sterling USEF Pony Medal. Previously, the two were the recipients of tricolors in weeks 2, 5, and WCHR week 6.
“He’s so good,” she continued. “His favorite food is bananas, which is really weird, and he loves blue Gatorade straight from the bottle. He has a really good personality.”
The young Liberty Township, OH native, who also enjoys going for runs with her father, is happy with her pony and excited to see where the rest of the year takes them.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully being consistent at every show I do on him and maybe even pulling out circuit champion or reserve circuit champion,” said Barnes, who is currently second in points for the Large Pony Hunter division and second for overall pony hunter rider. “Then for the rest of the year, just doing well at indoors and Kentucky.”
Reserve champion of the division, just one point behind the leader, was Vivian Golden of Reading, PA, aboard Dr. Betsee Parker’s Royalist.
