The Plaid Horse has partnered with the Virginia Horse Center for the second year as a media partner with full magazine distribution at the venue, including its Virginia Festival of Champions show series. The Virginia Horse Center hosts events year-round and is located on 600 acres with nine show rings, eight schooling rings, a 4,000 seat coliseum, eight barns, cross country course, and campgrounds.

The center offers events for all disciplines, including AA USEF recognized hunter/jumper shows, dressage shows, Arabian shows, eventing competitions, barrel racing, and various events and fundraising opportunities.

The Virginia Horse Center Foundation was established more than 35 years ago when Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr. and the Commission of the Industry of Agriculture commissioned a study about the Commonwealth’s horse industry, looking to stimulate its growth. In 1985, the Virginia Horse Center was signed into law, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the center was on August 13, 1986.

In 2007, the partnership between the state of Virginia and the VHCF was dissolved and the Foundation board was awarded the land and facilities through a United States Department of Agriculture loan. The VHC became wholly private yet was still committed to serving its participants and the commonwealth of Virginia with a standard of excellence seen at state-supported facilities. The Virginia Horse Center works to uphold its mission to provide a world-class facility hosting regional, national, and international equestrian events.

The Plaid Horse is excited to partner with the Virginia Horse Center for the second year,” says Piper Klemm, Ph.D., publisher of The Plaid Horse. “The Virginia Horse Center offers such a diverse calendar of events for all disciplines and provides a beautiful facility for riders of all levels to enjoy. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership in the future.”

Show Strides is a middle grade novel series about riding, showing, horsemanship, and the special friendships we form with our animals and fellow horse lovers. Set on the sprawling grounds of a large hunter jumper barn, the series features a diverse range of characters, from the lesson kid to the A-rated show regular, and everyone in between. While the reading level is appropriate for young riders, the series has fans of all ages! Read more about our books, including excerpts from all four novels, at www.theplaidhorse.com/show-strides/.
