For the second straight year, accomplished junior rider Jordan Gibbs has enrolled in Clarkson University’s Equestrian Studies. The Plaid Horse Publisher Piper Klemm, Ph.D. teaches the classes, which feature three subjects over two terms, the first of which will begin June 1. The following courses will be taught in each summer session:
- Business and Bias in the Equestrian Industry
- Grit, Toughness, and Contemporary Equestrian Coaching
- English Riding: History, Culture, and Industry Evolution
Summer Session I: June 1 – 30, 2022 – All Three Courses
Summer Session II: July 5 – August 3, 2022 – All Three Courses
“This year I am looking forward to taking BEA 115, Grit, Toughness, and Contemporary Equestrian Coaching class,” says Gibbs. “I am sure it will be an amazing experience for my knowledge and riding.”
Gibbs has received numerous accolades across the hunter, jumper and equitation rings. In 2021, she won the Gotham North/FEI North American Children’s Jumping Championship Qualifier presented by USHJA and later finished on a gold medal-winning team at the North American Youth Championships (NAYC). Throughout the 2022 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), Gibbs qualified for the $100,000 WCHR Peter Wetherill Palm Beach Hunter Spectacular; won Section B of the ASPCA Maclay at WEF 5; and finished among the top 12 in the WEF Equitation Championship. Most recently, she received the Hollow Brook Junior Rider Sportsmanship Award at Old Salem Farm.
Gibbs is returning after taking a summer class with brother Dominic Gibbs last year. Dominic is now a professional in the sport, riding with Max Amaya at Stonehenge Stables for the jumpers and working at Beacon Hill Show Stables. He will attend the University of Miami Herbert Business School in the fall of 2022.
“I took Professor Klemm’s equestrian history class, and I loved everything about it. Every article, and every book that was assigned made me analyze the strategies, techniques, and style of legendary horseman,” says Jordan. “Not only did the class allow me to improve my knowledge, and horsemanship, but everything I learned, I was able to apply to my riding.”
“All three courses are designed for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of the equestrian industry and how to best manage their hobbies, business and approach to our sport,” says Klemm. “They’re great for all ages.”
The courses at Clarkson are beneficial to college students and those out of school as well. Each course offers two transferable college credit hours, depending on university policy.
