Spruce Meadows (June 10, 2022) – Spruce Meadows launched the FEI Tournament Season today with the Founders’ Classic CSI3*. Katie Laurie (AUS) was among the 34 entries in the Friends of the Meadows 1.45M competition who tackled the course designed by FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacious (VEN). Laurie successfully completed the first round of competition with no faults and could not be caught in the 16 horse jump-off. It was a great start to the Spruce Meadows season for the Australian Olympian.
Riders that successfully completed in this competition qualified for the Friends of the Meadows Grand Prix taking place on Sunday, June 12.

The sun continued to shine during the first day of the Spruce Meadows Founders’ Classic CSI3*. Thirty-four horse/rider combinations completed the one-round Friends of the Meadows Jumper 1.40M course, designed by FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacious (VEN). Returning for his second season at Spruce Meadows, Matthew Sampson (GBR) came ready to win it all putting in two great rides aboard Curraghgraigu E Obos Flight and Elisa BJX placing first and fourth respectively.

Earlier in the day, over 80 horses and riders were welcomed on the All Canada Ring to open the season with the Friends of the Meadows, 1.30M speed competition. Against a field of some of the top international riders in the world, local up and coming rider Eric Krawitt (CAN) found his stride around the course posting a clear round with a time of 62.02s. More than 50 horse/rider combinations followed Krawitt, but no one could catch his time.
