Edited Press Release
After a year hiatus, the American Royal Hunter Jumper Show will return as Hunter National competition in Kansas City but with a new date on the calendar: springtime.

The reorganized American Royal Hunter Jumper Show will take place April 13 – 16, 2023. This is a significant change for the show, which has traditionally been held in the fall.
This year’s horse show will include classes for every rider, from 18” opportunity classes to the 4’ High Performance Hunters; jumper divisions from .70m to the 1.30m Mini Prix; and a Hunter Derby and Mini Hunter Classic.
The American Royal horse show series has grown to include The Royal Showcase — a Youth and Open Show; Cutting Horse Show; AQHA Quarter Horse show; UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show; Arabian and Open Breed Show; and the Hunter/Jumper Horse Show.
The American Royal has long held a place within the vast and rich history of the Midwest. Beginning with its conception in 1899 at the Kansas City Stockyards, it began in the form of a Hereford cattle exposition and sale. In 1905, horse shows were introduced to the Royal, with the help of local horseman Tom Bass. Growth continued in 1949 with the addition of a professional rodeo, followed in 1980 by the introduction of the World Series of Barbecue®.
The American Royal has always believed in Agrarian values, inspiring leaders, the impact of agriculture, and personal growth through competition, fun, and celebration. Beyond the equine and livestock shows, rodeos, and BBQ, the American Royal continually promotes education by hosting numerous informational and educational opportunities throughout the year.

Beyond the newly renovated class list, the 2023 American Royal Hunter Jumper Show will also feature a variety of exciting exhibitor activities, including a stall decorating contest with a theme of “old school.” Each night of the show, the schedule will include a festive activity, inculding a pizza party, a progressive dinner, a wine and cheese party, a silent auction, and a wine pull. The venue will also house numerous vendors for shopping. With something for everyone, a good time is sure to be had by all who attend.
