Competition got underway today at the Kentucky Horse Park for the 2023 edition of the Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships. After seeing 142 entries compete across the first round of the 3′ and 3’3″ Green sections, the Walnut Arena welcomed the Shadow Ridge Farm entry, Oceanside, and Kate Conover to the Winner’s Circle. Conover piloted the spectacular jumping 2017 Hanoverian gelding by Grey Top to a total score of 279 points to take the win in the first round.
“Oceanside does not have a lot of experience with this kind of pressure,” Conover said, “but as soon as I went into the ring, picked up the trot, and cantered to fence one it felt like he was ready to compete today. The feeling over the jumps is pretty incredible, he jumps right up to you, it is a very special feeling.
Landing off the last jump, Conover shared the feeling was, “Really exciting, I was just proud of the horse in general, he does not have much experience at this level. I think we have shown him six or seven times this year and for him to go in there, be that game, and be with me every step of the way – I felt so grateful for the horse.”
Second place with 276.50 points went to Dr. Betsee Parker’s, Florian, with Scott Stewart in the irons. Rounding out the top three was Frosted, a Rindy Dominguez entry, and Jennifer Hannan with 276.00 points.
