Edited Press Release
The Ridland Group, which operates the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano, CA, has completed its innovative, environment-forward sustainability project ahead of schedule and is ready to start hosting events in time for the 2025 season. The park’s new state-of-the-art stormwater capture system sets a new eco-friendly standard for horse shows and equine facilities everywhere.
First initiated May 18, 2024, the project was in collaboration with the Orange County Coastkeeper and aimed to protect the San Juan Creek and the park’s surrounding watershed while allowing the park to continue hosting equestrian competition under show management, Blenheim EquiSports, who also hold community and fundraising events at the Riding Park. Out of that mission, a drainage system was designed to keep contaminated stormwater out of the creek, which serves as a host to many aquatic habitats and flows into Doheny State Beach, and to also improve local water quality for people and wildlife.
“We extend our sincere congratulations to The Ridland Group for completing this project ahead of schedule,” said Garry Brown, Founder and President of Orange County Coastkeeper, in a statement released by Blenheim EquiSPorts. “We are excited to observe the new system during the upcoming rainy season and are confident in its success.”
This effort by The Ridland Group to absolve the Orange County Coastkeeper’s concerns highlights their commitment to hold their facility to the highest environmental accountability– functioning as a model to other venues that premier competition space doesn’t have to sacrifice sustainability.
Robert Ridland, President of The Ridland Group said in a statement from Blenheim Equisports, “We are profoundly grateful to Coastkeeper for their hard work and cooperative efforts to assure the long-term future of equestrian events at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park under the strictest of environmental protocols.”
