Camden, SC – In honor of Memorial Day, and recognizing all who have served, we’d like to share that Danny & Ron’s Rescue partners with War Dogs Making it Home, a Chicago-based nonprofit, committed to our veterans and their dogs. Since 2017, Danny & Ron have had 19 dogs placed in this program that pairs the dogs with veterans who suffer from PTSD/TBI (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury), in addition to other combat wounds.
The Love and Devotion of a Rescue
In 2017, Danny & Ron’s dog trainer, John Martino, recommended War Dogs Coming Home and made the connection between the two groups. Dogs that may be a good fit for the War Dogs Making it Home program are transported to Chicago, where they begin their journey. Together, the veteran, trainer, and dog work as a team to train the dog as a service companion-providing vital support for veterans coping with the invisible wounds of trauma.
Ron Danta, Co-Founder of Danny & Ron’s Rescue, said, “We are so proud that 19 of our Danny & Ron’s Rescue dogs have graduated through the War Dogs Making It Home Program. It’s a beautiful reminder that rescue goes both ways. On Memorial Day and every day, we honor the strength of those who serve, and the incredible bond between humans and dogs.”
War Dogs Making it Home
War Dogs Making it Home helps veterans better manage the invisible and lifelong challenges of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and brain injury (PTSD/TBI) by pairing them with dogs they help rescue and train to be their service dogs. The vets are saving the dogs’ lives. The dogs are saving theirs, creating a better life for both.
War Dogs is taking a cutting-edge approach to helping veterans. Under the direction of Elana Morgan, it pairs dogs rescued from shelters with veterans in an intense training process that has proven to be highly effective while also saving time and money.
Simply put, this program is dramatically changing the lives of veterans who might otherwise still be waiting for an already trained dog to become available. And it does so while providing an extra therapeutic dimension whose benefits are only beginning to be understood. This involves the sense of responsibility and commitment that the veterans feel for their dogs, who, for many, were facing euthanasia before being selected for the program.
