On Monday, the U.S. Center for SafeSport announced the launch of its first survey geared towards coaches, assistant coaches and instructors. The anonymous survey, which will be open Oct. 20-Nov. 12, has questions regarding abuse and misconduct in sport, as well as satisfaction, burnout, norms, and behaviors.
The results of the survey will be released early next year in the lead up to the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics and Paralympics. The survey aims to “contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of safety and well-being from the grassroots to the elite levels of sport, as the Center works to support U.S. athletes and engage leaders interested in athlete safety from around the world,” the release said.
The survey is open to anyone 18 or older who has served as a coach, assistant coach, instructor or similar in the last 5 years. The coaches can be from any sport and can have coached any age at any level. There will be optional spaces for survey takers to provide written answers and more detailed feedback. The survey is estimated to take 20 minutes to complete.
The survey is one of the action items that came out of a series of community engagement events held this summer, and feedback received during these events can be found in this memo.
