The Plaidcast Junior is an all-ages equestrian podcast geared towards education, tackling the issues that matter to young riders. Topics will range across the equestrian industry, with guests bringing their particular take and expertise to educate and enlighten listeners. Hosted by Jess Clawson and Alyssa Davidson, with guests chosen from a hand-picked team of equestrian experts across the sport. Listen to The Plaidcast Junior twice a month on the 5th and 20th.
MEET THE HOSTS
Jess Clawson, Phd
Jess is a professional historian and educator who lives in northwestern Virginia. They completed their undergraduate degree in English at William & Mary, and did their masters and doctoral work at the University of Florida. Jess is an event rider with a passion for thoroughbreds. They spend what little non-barn time they have collecting plants, cats, and hedgehogs, all of which are supervised by an Italian greyhound. They also have extensive experience in community organizing around queer identities, racial marginalization, and labor. Jess is the Horse Management Organizer for the Virginia Region Pony Clubs and is aiming to get their A rating as a horsemaster.
Alyssa grew up riding in central NJ before earning her Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science from Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania with a focus on equine reproduction. Though she grew up riding hunters and jumpers, in recent years she has switched to a focus in dressage and eventing. After college, Alyssa moved from working in the barn to working for Weatherbeeta North America before relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina to pursue a career in agriculture marketing and sales where she currently resides. An avid animal lover, her best hours are spent on the back of her horse with her dog running in the fields beside them.
