PCHA Trophy Tidbits: Know Your Pony Awards

As the 2023 horse show season slides into its second half, many young riders and competitors on the show circuit are beginning to focus more on year-end awards. As athletes set their eyes on the prize, it is good to understand where each award comes from and why it was created. One particularly special category of perpetual awards in the PCHA community is the pony awards of which there are five:

  • The Pony Cross Farm Perpetual Trophy is presented each year by Pony Cross Farm and Mrs. Stephanie Abronson to the “A” Overall High Point Pony.
  •  The West Palms Events Trophy “In loving memory of Budweiser” is named in memory of the champion pony, Budweiser, and is presented each year to the “A” Small Pony Hunter Champion.
  • The Headlands Management Perpetual Trophy is kindly sponsored by Sally Hudson and Headlands Management. This trophy is presented as a year-end award in the Large Pony division.
  • The Medium Pony Perpetual Trophy. Sponsored generously by Tara Brown-Stocks, this trophy is awarded to the highest-scoring Medium Pony at the year’s end.

Celebrating riders across both english and western disciplines, the Pacific Coast Horse Shows Association utilizes its year-end awards banquet to include many sanctioned horse shows that align with its values. Founded in 1946, the association promotes the interests of owners and exhibitors, cooperates with exhibitors, officials, and management of competition, publicizes and advertises PCHA sanctioned shows, encourages and assists owners, exhibitors, and breeders of horses to maintain, develop and improve the quality of horses of the Hunter, Jumper, Western and Reining divisions. By the finale of the season, approximately 300 year-end championship awards will be presented. To learn more about the PCHA, please visit www.pchashows.com.
