At age 26, most horses are winding down their careers from retirement to spending their time with novice riders. Andrew Ross’s Thoroughbred mare Electra, however, has a few more Devon blues to hang on the banner.

Starting on the track in Maryland as a young horse, Electra raced a few times before retrying her career as a hunter. After showing exceptional scope and length of stride as a hunter, she was scouted to be an elite jumper prospect and today, she’s done everything from Grand Prixs to winning back to back championships in the Thoroughbred Jumpers at The Devon Fall Classic at age 24 and 25 in 2022 and 2023.

She’s been with Ross since she was six years old and still tries her heart out for him 20 years later. The pair won a Take2 Thoroughbred Jumper class at the Devon Fall Classic to end up Reserve Champion in the division, which is just the latest in this horse’s long list of achievements, and a living representation of what partnership, love, and competitive spirit look like in our sport. For a horse to have had such a long and successful career, across disciplines, is also a testament to the care and devotion Ross has for this special mare.

“I’ve had her for so long and she’s still competitive. She has the biggest heart of any horse I have ever met. There is nothing she wouldn’t try to win,” Ross said of his partner.
