Jahzara Sinaa and Ashe Cawley Win $5,000 1.40 m Open Jumper Class to Start Week 2 at 2024 Old Salem Farm September Horse Shows

Green and Performance Hunters Open the Hedge and June Road Rings

North Salem, NY – September 18, 2024  Molly Ashe Cawley (USA) was one of the first riders to top the podium in the Old Salem Farm International Arena on Wednesday, kicking off the second week of the 2024 Old Salem Farm September Horse Shows with a speedy victory in the $5,000 1.40 m Open Jumper. She piloted Jahzara Sinaa faultlessly through the timers in 35.997 seconds.

The Old Salem Farm September Horse Shows host competitions for riders of all levels and ages, ranging from young children on ponies to top Grand Prix stars aboard their elite mounts. Week 1 (September 10-15) was designated CSI4*/2* while Week 2 (September 17-22) is designated CSI3*. Old Salem’s September schedule also includes a National/Level 2 event (September 25-27).

Course designer Alan Wade oversaw the tracks in the Old Salem Farm International Arena on Wednesday, challenging three divisions of Open Jumper riders with several winding courses. Of the 17 horse-and-rider combinations who presented over the $5,000 1.40 m Open Jumper course, six went clear to the jump-off, with Ashe Cawley leading the way aboard Oakridge Farm’s 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare (0/0/35.997). 

After taking third place in the inaugural $200,000 Blue Diamond Cup presented by Old Salem Farm, Brian Moggre (USA) returned to the podium for second place in the $5,000 1.40 m Open Jumper, riding McLain Ward’s 7-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare It Girl to a 36.990-second score. Fellow American Andrew Welles took third in 38.177 seconds aboard Cismet 4, Itasca Group LLC’s 12-year-old Westphalian gelding.  

Colombia’s Mark Bluman secured victory against a field of 43 entries in the $4,000 1.35 m Open Jumper, piloting Masai LS, Cavall Holdings LP 5986799’s 8-year-old La Silla gelding, to a double-clear score of 28.553 seconds. Peter Leone (USA) claimed second in 29.203 seconds aboard Flugel Der Freiheit, Lionshare Jumps LLC’s 8-year-old Anglo-European gelding. Catherine Tyree Flores (USA) finished third with a 29.808-second score aboard her 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding BEC Lorenzo

Forty-six entries tackled Wade’s course in the morning’s $2,000 1.25 m Open Jumper, where Peter Lutz (USA) earned top honors aboard Libertas Farm LLC’s 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Lady Diva HX (0/0/29.816). Taking second was Kyle Gambino of Greenwich, CT, aboard Coralie, Old Salem Farm Acquisition Corp’s 11-year-old Warmblood mare (0/0/30.216). Lauren Skowlund of Wellington, FL, stopped the clock in 30.746 seconds for third place aboard Charlyn, Raquel and Alexandra Lopez Inc.’s 11-year-old Hanoverian mare. 

Green and Performance hunters opened the Hedge and June Road hunter rings with their beautifully rhythmic rounds, earning points toward division championships that will be crowned on Thursday. Among the day’s blue-ribbon winners was Holly Orlando of Wellington, FL, who earned the September Horse Shows’ Grand Hunter Championship during Week 1. She had several horses win their respective over-fences classes on Wednesday, including Sheena Firestone’s Creed, Privet Farm LLC’s Wonderstruck, and James Anderson’s Soane

Other winners included Amy Lowrey of South Salem, NY, aboard Katharine Page’s Kensing in the Combined Green 3’3”/3’6”/3’9” under-saddle class and Jennifer Bauersachs of Frenchtown, NJ, aboard Caroline Kellogg’s Alistaire in one of the Performance 3’3” over-fences classes.
