Trainer Tuesday: What is a scenario when you might jump again in the schooling ring after finishing in the show ring?

Welcome to Trainer Tuesday! Each week we ask trainers a question and gather their answers for you. These trainers have a range of experience, backgrounds, and focus points of their programs, so the answers have as much variation as you would expect and also probably much more similarity.

This week’s question posed is: What is a scenario when you might jump again in the schooling ring after finishing in the show ring?

Here are their answers:

“I will head back to the schooling area if the horse doesn’t finish on a positive note. For example if the horse has a stop or if a sensitive horse has a hard rub or a rail. I want them to finish their day with something positive no matter what.” Hope Glynn

“We generally try not to jump extra jumps. If there is an incident in the show ring where a horse and/or rider needs confidence or positive reinforcement, it’s important to address it immediately, so we will jump a few jumps in the schooling ring to finish on a positive note.” -Traci Brooks

“The only time we would jump in the warm up after finishing showing is in the case of a rider fall or an elimination from refusals. We like to try to end on a good note whenever possible. Everything else is a problem for the next day.” Geoff Case

“Typically, we will only jump a fence after showing if we want to end the ride on a better note than the horse and rider ended on in the ring. If a fall or refusal occurs, we want the horse to have a positive experience in the warm up ring before sending them back to the barn.” -Nicole Roach
